Baluchi carpets are made by Baluchistan nomads occupying areas between modern day Southern Iran, West Pakistan and South and South West Afghanistan. The carpets often small (by nature of the nomadic lifestyles of the weavers) are extremely hardwearing – making them suitable for areas of heavy foot traffic, the designs are bold and geometric with well-defined patterns. The warp is made of wool and goat hair whilst wool is always used for the actual pile. The carpets, as with this piece have a lovely individuality about them – each with their own character and personal charm.
