Kazak carpets are made by Afghan nomads occupying areas of Northern Afghanistan. The carpets often small (by nature of the nomadic lifestyles of the weavers) are extremely hardwearing – making them suitable for areas of heavy foot traffic, the designs are bold and geometric with well-defined patterns. The warp is made of wool and goat hair whilst wool is always used for the actual pile. The carpets, as with this piece has a very short pile and offers itself as a striking accompaniment to any interior.
