190 x 102cm Persian Balouch
Baluchi rugs are made by Afghanistan’s various Balouchi tribes residing in the south-western part of the country. Although predominantly of Afghan origin its worthy of mention the Baluchistan tribal areas as a semi-autonomous region which extends into the modern day border regions of south western Pakistan and south eastern Iran. The Baluch, whose name means “wanderers’ retain a semi-nomadic way of life today.
Balouchi rugs are truly charming one a kind authentic tribal rugs with no two carpets ever being the same.
Various vegetable and other natural dyes are used to produce the rich and vibrant colours in these truly magical and charming little rugs. Due often to the nomadic lifestyle of the weavers the rugs are mostly of small to medium sizes although sometimes we do occasionally see larger weavings, often with disproportional long length to narrow width ratios. These unusual shapes can make ideal carpets for filling those irregular shaped areas such hallways and entrance halls etc.. referred to in the USA as Area Carpets.
Made with locally reared hand-spun Ghazni wool and constructed with the Persian double knot these are extremely hard wearing and durable carpets making them particularly ideal for households with pets or high foot-traffic areas.
The Balouchi weavers are also know for producing other beautiful trappings of the nomadic lifestyle, including tent bags and ceremonial trappings, cushions etc.
