May’s Rug of the Month

 In The Weave

This months rug of the month is this very lovely South Iranian Gabbeh Tribal Rug measuring 194 x 119cm – Woven entirely by hand by the nomadic weavers of southern Iran. Gabbeh or Gabber as they are sometimes know are traditionally woven as sleeping rugs characterised by a unusually course weave and think pile usually about 2.5cm deep for added comfort. As with this very lovely example we often see abstract designs that rely upon open fields of vibrant colours and a playfully repeated horizontal bands of interlocking tribal art motifs.
